As we know, the spread of the virus is happening rapidly. Epidemics of this
scale do not happen for the first time and clearly not for the last. Therefore, the question of “how to protect yourself from viruses” always remains actual.
Silvergate team decided to test whether silver nanoparticles have antiviral properties. As it turned out, research on this topic has been conducted since the beginning of the 2000s. We have made the researches on studies that clearly state that silver nanoparticles can withstand very serious viruses, even such as HIV.
In January 2010, a paper was published in the journal Nanobiotechnology in which Mexican immunologists from Nuevo Leon University investigated the effectiveness of silver nanoparticles against HIV. They found that silver nanoparticles block the entry of HIV into cells and stops the development of the virus in the early stages and reduces the possibility of transmission of infection between cells. On the virus there are spikes formed by the glycoprotein, which consist of two proteins: the variable protein gp120 and the more conserved transmembrane gp41. Silver nanoparticles attach to these spikes, binding predominantly the gp120 protein, and thus counteract the binding of the virus to host cells, as demonstrated in vitro.
